Lookup means that it automagically determines the media type (i.e. book, mag, DVD etc) all by itself using the file of Unley items it has stored locally.
Very, very occasionally you may retro tag a new item that got added in the couple of weeks between us exporting the Unley items file and the Collections team RFID tagging all new items. In this case the retro trolley will pop up and ask you what item type it is.
Yes, you can change this setting on the Circ Assistants attached the PCs as they are used for other libraries items, or brand new items that won't be in the Unley item file stored locally.
TL;DR? Here's the short version:
- Never ever change the MARC Media Format field on the retro trolley
- If it doesn't know the media format it will nicely pop up and ask you
- You can change this setting on the Circ Assistant but you ALWAYS need to check it is on the correct settings before you use it and whenever you change to encoding different item types
