As part of our departure from the traditional ‘desk’ at
Unley (and at Goodwood) we need to make some changes to what we keep stored
close by for customer service and what we can be moved further away or stored
differently.
We know that we will need access to rego forms, cash, pens,
contractor sign-in sheets etc close by and within arm’s reach. Things like the
toddler and preschool packs, stationery, brochures and volunteer sign-in sheets will need
to be close by and easily accessible too! Perhaps things like the scanner, headphones and scrap paper can be out for customers to access at any time. Perhaps print cards can be readily accessed by patrons too. Have a think about what would be at your ideal library desk and what you barely need access to on a daily basis.
The RFID team has already done some thinking about our future customer service space and
will be looking at utilising both the stationery/book club cupboard and the
server room more efficiently. The server room will have swipe card access and can hold a number of secured items.

What about the ipads and their chargers, the kindles and the scanner. Can we build a purpose built storage box that inludes power so they can be recharged whilst being secure.
ReplyDeleteCould we think about storing headphones at the computers, so that people don't have to come and borrow them? And also trialing leaving the photocopier unlocked so that paper trays could be filled a bit easier and quicker, instead of having to get keys etc? - Nicole
ReplyDeleteSomething else I thought of - do we need the PC Reservation computers anymore? I think they are a bit redundant, and end up with people waiting around to use them (or never really using them, in the case of Goodwood since it is so far away), or waiting in a queue to ask staff to book them in, when they could just jump on any computer that is free straight away.
ReplyDeleteWith some new clever signage, inviting people to jump straight on available computers, it may be something we could re-educate our customers in?
With people being able to book online ahead of time, if they wish, or call us, perhaps this is an extra step we could take out to simplify the process? Plus free up some much sought after space?
