A scanner darkly
Quick...a prize for the first person who gets the title literary reference without using Google (yes, I trust you not to cheat because you'd only be cheating yourself...lol). Respond first in the comments and the prize and the glory are all yours...
And now for some more exciting RFID improvement news... some of you may have noticed that the centre RFID kiosk @ Unley against the turquoise wall had its scanner replaced on Monday...and I believe the technical term for the result of this is 'freaking awesome!'
This new replacement scanner is a different brand than the ones that came on all of our v5 kiosks. It is way more responsive - it scans cards of all kinds super quickly when they are waved anywhere near the beam. It even scans our old school laminated beige (which you must say as 'beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeige') cards - yee ha! I served a customer on Monday night just after it had been installed and he managed to accidentally drop his card near the scanner and it still scanned it. Much joy! So happy! Many easy!
So now we have tested this new type of scanner and know that it is the knees of the bee, I have requested from FE Tech that they replace all of our v5 kiosk scanners with this different model. They are sending the three replacement scanners for Unley first, so if you see a package from FE Tech rock up please let me know it is here and I will organise a tech to come out and install them so we can get the process for making all of our v5 kiosk scanners freaking awesome happening.

The title escapes me...argghhh!!!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I can attest to the speed of the new scanner. I've had two patrons who used the old laminated library card and it worked oh so perfectly. Can't wait for all the other kiosks to the new scanner.
I have heard of "through a glass, darkly" but have no idea what it means or if it is a reference to something else. But I can confirm that the tech is here at Unley right now replacing the scanners. Yeah!
ReplyDeleteScanners @ Unley have been replaced and are ahhhhhhhh-mazing!
ReplyDeleteI've just had an update that the Goodwood scanners have come in to stock so they will be sent out this week too - squee!
FYI... the title was a reference to a book by the seminal science fiction author Philip K. Dick. For those non-sci-fi-readers, his works were the basis for lots of films such as Blade Runner, Total Recall and Minority Report to name but a few.
ReplyDeleteThe Goodwood scanners will be replaced tomorrow! So consistent awesome scanning across the board is only a mere sleep away...
