This wall mounted PC and accompaniments are located next to the kiosks and lift, conveniently placed so that you can easily check gate alarms and assist our customers with a wide range of stuff 'n' things without having to make them wander back across the library floor to the full-sized-pod.
Other awesome customer experience bonuses provided by the mini-pod include less wait time for customers (especially when the two existing pod PCs are already in use), less distance to have to shame-walk across if they set the gate alarms off, and faster resolution of issues without them having to take more than a step or two.
The mini-pod has a barcode scanner wand and a slip printer attached for your customer service enjoyment, so you can reprint slips, book PCs and scan cards. While it does have the RFID Alarm Viewer for the security gates, and the RFID Management Console software installed it currently does not have a Circ Assistant pad attached. But <drum roll> we do have one on order with FE Tech and it will be winging it's way to us in the next week. Once it is installed the mini-pod will offer pretty much the same functionality as the full-sized-pod...with the exception of cash handling (but you can of course take the mobile eftpos unit over there for payments without the customer having to move. Just make sure you always keep track of it so that it doesn't go MIA!).
It does have a key to open the pod box, so you will need this when turning it on as a part of Lib Admin Duties. It is in the usual key cabinet and is marked with 'mini pod'. You don't need it when closing up though, as you can just shutdown via Windows as per the norm.
Yay to everyone for coming up with this idea (especially Caitlin who predicted the need for some mini-pod action so early she was bleeding edge!), Hanlie for organising it and Cortesse for helping me set it up.
So go you good things, keep on suggesting and implementing things that make us better and enjoy your Unley mini-pod-ing.
This sounds like a TV commercial - DAMART presents...Love having an extra staff PC and the place for it is spot on.
