Out-going, going, gone!

So today marked the first day of PLS's requirement to tag all outgoing items in the black boxes. You can read more about it on Geoff's blog. While Unley Libraries has a week's grace to get with the statewide program, we still managed to send out 100% of black box items tagged from Unley Library today! That's quite an achievement, so well done team (with special thanks to Cortesse and Ruth).

As mentioned, your friendly local RFID team will be catching up with you this week to provide some encoding training so you can assist with this process. Thanks to Cortesse, Karyn and Ruth who were the guinea pigs for today's first training sess. But never fear, even before you have encoding training on the Circ Assistant pad, you can easily help out! Before you put an item in a black box, you can check it to see if it has an RFID tag. Tags are usually in the back of books and mags near the spine, and on the inserts of AV items. If an item HAS a tag, you can pop it in the black box and send it on its way. If it DOESN'T have a tag, you can pop it in the clearly marked areas near the desk returns PC. Untagged outgoing black box items that belong to Unley Libraries go in one clearly labelled spot, and untagged outgoing black box items that belong to other libraries go in another clearly labelled spot.

If that doesn't make sense, don't worry, it will in the very near future! It's all a happening, so keep your ear to the ground... and go team! I'm sure we can hit our target of having 100% of black box items from both sites tagged by the end of the week.
